If you have purchased a bed or crate for your dog it is valuable to train them to go there on command. This will allow you to crate your dog when you leave the house or get your dog to go their bed instead of trying to jump into yours. All you have to do is pick a command to use. Go to your bed or go to your crate are good trigger words to teach this.
All that is required is that you keep repeating the command phrase that you choose to your dog. Lure them to follow you to their crate with a treat. Once they walk into their crate reward them with the treat and love. When teaching your dog this trick it is essential that you do not lock them in the crate right from the beginning. Let them remain free to come back out of the crate. Do not actually lock them in the crate and leave the house when you teach this command to them. They will be more reluctant to listen to you next time. Instead, do this as a playful exercise for them for the first couple days you teach them this command. Make sure that they are rewarded with treats and love when they listen to the command. This will ensure they affiliate a positive outcome with them going to their crate; so they will continue to do it in the future.
If you are training your dog to go to their bed it may be a little more complex. Chances are you don't just want your dog to walk onto their bed and then walk off and go back to what they were doing. You may need to do another couple of steps if you are trying to get your dog to go lie down in their bed and stay there. If this is the case, lure your dog to their bed with a treat. Once you get them onto their bed, give them the command to lie down. Once they lie down on their bed, give the command for stay. Walk away and if they stay lying down in bed reward them with the treat and love. Just make sure that you give them the treat while they are still lying in bed. Don't have them get up and come to you. While they eat their treat and receive your love and praise, repeat the go to your bed command in a happy voice and tell them that they were a good boy/girl. You may have to continue to do the training for the command in this three step routine several times, but eventually your dog will understand that go to your bed means they are to lie down and stay in their bed.
